“KYOICHI” is an abbreviation of “Kyo no ichiban” which literally means “No.1 thing for today”, referring to the best, most wonderful, most memorable or funniest thing that people experience in their day. Kyoichi is a casual and friendly Japanese expression that is commonly used among friends or family members.  For example, at a restaurant, “Kono ryori, watashi no kyoichi desu!” (This dish is my favorite from today’s menu!) or at a music festival, “Ano kashu, watashi no kyoichi dane! ”(That is the best singer I’ve seen today!)

Our Ichiban Kobe’s staff members (TEAM KYOICHI) hit the town and have unique interviews with people from all over the world.  At the end of the interview, we ask them one question in Japanese, “Anata no Kobe no kyoichi wa nandesuka? (What is your favorite thing, memory or attraction in Kobe today?)”  And then, we ask them to answer the question in Japanese! They need some practice of course, but all of them really enjoy memorizing the phrases.

Q1 Where did you come from?

We came from the United Kingdom. We live in a city near Bristol.

Q2 Is this your first time visiting Kobe?

Yes, it’s our first time. Our cruise trip began from Tokyo and just arrived in Kobe this morning.

Q3 How long will you be staying in Kobe?

Until tonight. Actually, the ship will depart tonight so we only have limited time for sightseeing.

Q4 What is your impression of Kobe?

We both like Kobe so much because the entire city is really clean. In addition, I felt very relaxed when I saw all the natural beauty including a variety of flowers in many locations here. And of course, people here are so cheerful and lovely!

Q5 What’s your favorite Kobe-related thing, memory, or attraction so far today?  “Anata no Kobe no kyoichi wa nandesuka?”

Arima Onsen hot spring. It was incredibly nice! We visited Arima Onsen this morning and soaked up to our shoulders. The Onsen really warmed up our whole bodies. Actually we still feel very warm even several hours after the amazing Onsen experience.

The cityscape is very beautiful and we all feel good local vibes from shops and restaurants here. I got into this city “Kobe” right away. Actually we’ve already had some local food and it all tasted awesome!

Here, Chinatown was the first location to stop by after we got off the ship. It’s so vibrant! We love it here! We are planning on visiting the Ikuta Jinja Shrine, we are very interested in Japanese shrines. And of course, we’ll shop as well. Now we’ve got this local magazine “Ichiban KOBE”! So, we’ll check it out and hit the road! Thanks!!
